A women-only community for friendship over 55
Find your bestie.
A women-only club for real friendship after 55. The kind of friend who calls to check in. Who remembers your grandkids' names. Who notices when you've gone quiet.
Come whenever you're ready. We'll keep the porch light on for you.
We're brand new, and we're opening in small groups so nobody arrives to an empty porch. Join the founding members.

Why it's hard to make friends at this age (and why it isn't your fault)
Somewhere between raising kids and retiring, the friendships got quiet. You're not the only one who noticed. Nobody warns you, and almost nobody says it out loud, so it arrives feeling like a personal failing. It isn't one. Look at the arithmetic.
The kids moved away
Whole friendships were built around school pickup, the team, the carpool. Then the kids left and so did the reason you saw those women every week.
Retirement ended the work friendships
You liked those women. You genuinely did. But it turns out proximity was doing most of the work, and lunch every other month isn't the same thing.
A divorce or a death reshuffled the circle
People pick sides, or they get awkward, or they simply stop calling because they don't know what to say. Either way, the table gets smaller.
Everyone is busy with grandkids
Including you, some weeks. Which is lovely. It also fills a calendar without filling the particular spot a friend your own age used to sit in.
So we built somewhere to start over. It's not weird to want a new best friend at 68. It's just rare that anyone builds a place for it.

What you'll actually get
- 1
A pen pal. Or three.
Letters you write when you have something to say, and read with your second cup of coffee. Nobody is watching to see how fast you reply.
- 2
A room full of women who care about the same odd thing you do
Seed catalogs. Quilt backing. The 1920 census. Whatever it is, there is a room, and someone in it is already deep in it.
- 3
A class every week where you see the same faces
Repetition is how friendship actually happens. Same time, same women, low stakes, questions welcome.
- 4
Eventually, someone you'd call at 9pm
Not on day one. But that's what this is for, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
Bestie Match
Three introductions a week. Not a catalog.
You answer a short questionnaire - what you like doing, what you're hoping for, how often you like to talk, and what you're in the middle of right now. Then on Monday morning we introduce you to three women. That's it. Three.
Scrolling a directory of strangers is exhausting and it makes people into products. Three is a number you can actually think about over a week.

What the Club is (and isn't)
What the Club is
- Women only, 55 and over - every member verified
- Pen pals who write real letters, at a human pace
- Hobby rooms for the specific thing you love
- A class most weeks, with the same faces in it
- Moderators who are actual women with names
What the Club isn't
- A dating site - there are no men here at all
- A networking group with name tags
- A place strangers can join anonymously
- A feed that never ends
- A company that sells your information
The rooms
Small, moderated, and specific. Read for as long as you like before you say a word - no one will call on you.
Gardening
Tomatoes, deer, and the war against bindweed.
Quilting & knitting
Works in progress, stash confessions, pattern help.
Book club
One book a month, and nobody is graded on finishing it.
Genealogy
Brick walls, census records, and surprising cousins.
Cooking for one
Real food, small batches, no sad plates.
Birdwatching
Feeder photos, first-of-season sightings, mystery calls.
Grandmothering
The joy, the driving, the bedtime negotiations.

Trips taken, trips planned, and going alone on purpose.
Women of Faith
Prayer, scripture, doubt. All traditions, nobody converting anyone.

Widowhood, divorce, or a move across the country. A private room, kept at a slow pace.
Empty nest
The quiet house, and what you do with it.
Art & painting
Watercolors, sketchbooks, and beginner nerve.
Walking group
Local routes, step counts, and knee talk.
Classic movies
Saturday watch-alongs and long arguments about endings.
Puzzles & games
Crosswords, jigsaws, and the Wednesday word game.
Health & wellness
Walking, sleep, joints, and feeling like yourself again.
Safe, and actually private
No men. No romance. No scams built on either one. Here is exactly how that is enforced.
Women only, verified
Every member confirms she is a woman 55 or older with an ID check before she can write a single letter.
No romance angle exists here
Romance scams targeting people over 60 caused $584 million in reported losses in 2025 (FBI IC3). Those scams need a romantic opening. We removed the entire category.
No phone numbers or addresses
Letters stay inside the Club. Contact details are filtered out, so nothing personal slips out before you mean it to.
Every letter screened for scam patterns
Money talk, urgency, gift cards - flagged before it reaches you, not after.
Block and report, one clearly labeled button
It sits at the top of every letter and every profile. One tap ends it, and you never owe an explanation.
We never sell member data
Not to advertisers, not to brokers. Your membership pays for this - you are not the product.
What belonging to the Club looks like
Not a feed you check. A week with something in it - the same faces, turning up again and again, until they are the people you tell things to.
A standing hobby room
One room you make your own - quilting, birding, genealogy, whichever. Clubs within the Club, looked after so the conversation stays kind.
A class every week
Same hour, same women, questions welcome. By the third week nobody has to introduce herself.
Letters going back and forth
Something to look forward to in the afternoon. A real correspondence with one or two women, at whatever pace suits you both.
And eventually, a local meetup
When there are enough Club members near you, we help arrange coffee somewhere public. Come if you like. Nobody is counting.
Club Classes
Classes taught at a comfortable pace, with questions welcome at any point and nobody sighing at you. Free members take one class a month; Club Plus includes them all, plus replays.

Why the Club exists
A note from us, and we'd rather be plain about it: The Porchlight Club is brand new. We don't have thousands of members. We don't have glowing quotes to show you, because we're not going to invent any - this is a place built around not being deceived, and that has to start with us.
We built it because making a real friend after 55 got quiet and hard, and almost nobody has built somewhere decent for that. So we're opening in small groups, on purpose, so that the first women here find each other instead of an empty room.
If you join now, you're not a customer. You're a founding member, and you'll shape what this becomes.
What founding members are saying
These are the words our founding members use to describe what they came here for.
- “I have someone to write to on a Tuesday afternoon.”
- “There are three women who notice when I go quiet.”
- “I joined for a class and stayed for the people in it.”
- “Nobody here has ever asked me for money.”
As more women find their people here, we'll add their words too.
